Trollbeads has been around since 1976 starting with the first bead being made by Søren Sølvsmed in Copenhagen, Denmark. Sølvsmed started the business by creating the very first Trollbead when it was fashionable to have a silver ball on your leather strap as a necklace.
Wanting to create a bead that looked like nothing that had ever come before it, Sølvsmed decided to go against the tradition of creating a silver ball bead with human faces. Instead, he crafted them to not look human, which is where the name “Troll” came into play. Crafted with six different troll faces all around it, the original silver bead is still in the collection today. Once people noticed the unique qualities the bead had, it was only a matter of time until they requested customized beads from Sølvsmed.
However, Trollbeads didn’t attain the mainstream popularity that it deserved until 1981, when Lisa Aagaard opened her store and introduced her clients to Trollbeads. Since then, the word about Trollbeads has spread and they are currently sold in more than 40 countries.
Today, Trollbeads remains a family business, and it continues to design and create new beads with your feedback and ideas in mind. With 18 internationally renowned designers and over 600 different beads, each bead is given its own unique design and history.
